Bounding a global red-blue proportion using local conditions
نویسندگان
چکیده
We study the following local-to-global phenomenon: Let B and R be two finite sets of (blue and red) points in the Euclidean plane R. Suppose that in each “neighborhood” of a red point, the number of blue points is at least as large as the number of red points. We show that in this case the total number of blue points is at least one fifth of the total number of red points. We also show that this bound is optimal and we generalize the result to arbitrary dimension and arbitrary norm using results from Minkowski arrangements.

A MIXED PARABOLIC WITH A NON-LOCAL AND GLOBAL LINEAR CONDITIONS
Krein [1] mentioned that for each PD equation we have two extreme operators, one is the minimal in which solution and its derivatives on the boundary are zero, the other one is the maximal operator in which there is no prescribed boundary conditions. They claim it is not possible to have a related boundary value problem for an arbitrarily chosen operator in between. They have only considered lo...
متن کاملThe effect of different light wavelengths on metabolomic changes of mint and pennyroyal
Increasing trend in global population and climate changes are driving forces to shift toward the use of vertical farms with artificial lighting (VFALs). The main downside of VFALs is inefficient electrical usage. High efficiency and economy cost of light-emitting diodes (LED) are going to make VFALs a promising type of farming in future. Each individual species needs unique light treatment in o...
متن کاملThe absence of attenuating effect of red light exposure on pre-existing melanopsin-driven post-illumination pupil response
It has been proposed that after activation by blue light, activated melanopsin is converted back to its resting state by long wavelength red light exposure, a putative mechanism of melanopsin chromophore recovery in vivo. We tested this hypothesis by investigating whether red light attenuates the ongoing post-illumination pupil response (PIPR) induced by melanopsin-activating blue light. Pupill...
متن کاملNut Selection by Captive Blue Jays: Importance of Availability and Implications for Seed Dispersal
We assessed dietary preference of 14 captive Blue Jays (Cyanocitta cristata) for different food types under different conditions of availability. In four separate feeding trials, we provisioned jays with the following: Trial 1, two nuts each of white oak (Quercus alba), pin oak (Q. palustris), black oak (Q. velutina), northern red oak (Q. rubra), and shagbark hickory (Carya ovata); Trial 2, two...
متن کامل3D model retrieval using global and local radial distances
3D model retrieval techniques can be classified as histogram-based, view-based and graph-based approaches. We propose a hybrid shape descriptor which combines the global and local radial distance features by utilizing the histogram-based and view-based approaches respectively. We define an area-weighted global radial distance with respect to the center of the bounding sphere of the model and en...
